Capital Campaign for the ALCA Expansion

Our Capital Campaign, "Project REACH" has a goal of $2 million. These funds will be used for the expansion, build-out, and operation of our school in order to continue to make a difference in the lives of our students and their families. We are excited to share that we have already received a lead gift of $480,000 from the Foglia Family Foundation and an additional $10,000 through the efforts of parents and friends of John McGrath, our Chairman of the 2017 Capital Campaign.

In addition, over $60,000 was raised the night of our 11th Annual Gala on March 11, 2017.

By making a tax deductible donation to our Capital Campaign, you will be directly contributing to the success of our students. Additionally, you will be recognized for your generosity as a Capital Campaign supporter.

Alexander Leigh Center for Autism depends on your assistance and generosity. We hope you will be able to join us in this very important and exciting endeavor!

The current CDC rate of autism is 1 in 68 amongst 8 year olds. Here in the county it is estimated that there are approximately 350 children affected by autism. There is an ever increasing number of students aging out of the public school system at 22. This training series will provide our communitythe education needed to proactively prepare for what Kelly Weaver, Executive Director of Alexander Leigh calls “will be a countywide crisis within the next 6 years”. She has coordinated four fantastic speaking events for our year long ‘Autism Into Adulthood’ four part Speaker Series. “I believe will provide insight to parents, educators and county partnerships. My hope is to get people talking about solutions and encouraging a call to action.” States, Weaver.

Chantal Sicile-Kira - 2013 Top Ten Autism Blogger and Social Healthmaker (Sharecare), Chantal’s passion for empowering others and her personal interest in autism has led her to become an autism consultant, an award-winning author, speaker, and leader in the field of autism, adolescence and transition to adulthood. She has been involved with autism spectrum disorders for over 25 years as both a parent and a professional on both sides of the Atlantic. A tireless advocate for those on the autism spectrum, Chantal founded Autism College in order to provide consultation services, practical information and training online about autism. In 2009, Chantal was appointed by the California Senate Select Committee on Autism & Related Disorders to lead the South Counties Autism Regional Taskforce as Co-Chair; and in the past served on the Taskforce on Transitional Services & Supports reporting to the California Legislative Blue Ribbon Commission on Autism. Chantal received her BA in Social Ecology from the University of California at Irvine (UCI). Her first practical experience with autism was at Fairview State Hospital, teaching self-help and community living skills to severely developmentally disabled and autistic adolescents in preparation for their de-institutionalization. Chantal has been interviewed on a wide variety of media, including NPR, PBS, The Chicago Tribune, Newsweek and Fox News. Jeremy, Chantal’s son, was highlighted in the Newsweek cover story “Growing up with Autism” and featured in the MTV documentary True Life series, in “I Have Autism” which was the recipient of a 2008 Voice Award.
